I happened upon this video clip from the 1994 world premiere concert performance of “A Thanksgiving of American Folk Hymns” by the BYU Combined Choirs and Orchestra.  It features the concert’s dramatic and beautiful closing number, Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing.

For anyone who loves religious Americana, powerful choral singing, or simply the spirituality of a great traditional hymn, this six-minute video is not to be missed.

I hope you enjoy it, and don’t forget to turn up the speakers!

From the publisher: Over 500 performers from BYU combine in a concert celebration of beloved American folk hymns. A best-seller since its inception, A Thanksgiving of American Folk Hymns is now presented year-round on over 200 public television stations. The program features arrangements of beautiful hymn melodies in stunning performances that leave audiences profoundly moved and inspired. The concert was widely rebroadcast in the aftermath of 9/11 as a calming and a healing gesture.

Recordings are widely available in both CD and DVD formats.   Sample clips can be heard on the publisher’s web site, www.TantaraRecords.com.
