In this article from the Prepare Today Newsletter, a community disaster team leader recounts her experience facing a large-scale power failure during 110-degree summer heat in Utah’s southern desert.
She introduces the concept of “cascading events”, the series of cause-and-effect relationships which lead to unexpected consequences in many natural and manmade disasters.
The author builds upon her observations to make 19 specific recommendations for personal and family disaster preparation. Her plan is comprehensive, reasonable, framed in non-technical language, and applicable to the average person.
This article is better than most I have seen on the subject. I recommend it to those who are interested in preparing themselves more adequately for emergencies and disruptions of all kinds.

What a great topic to touch on in the blog. I have to get caught up with your blog, but as I quickly tooked over this most recent article it reminded me of how Paul and I need to work on our own emergency preparedness kits. Even over here I know we can make room and find a plan for food storage and emergency preparedness that will fit our home and what is asked of us. Way to go, for writing about such relevant topics!
