image In this article from the Prepare Today Newsletter, a community disaster team leader recounts her experience facing a large-scale power failure during 110-degree summer heat in Utah’s southern desert.

She introduces the concept of “cascading events”, the series of cause-and-effect relationships which lead to unexpected consequences in many natural and manmade disasters.

The author builds upon her observations to make 19 specific recommendations for personal and family disaster preparation.  Her plan is comprehensive, reasonable, framed in non-technical language, and applicable to the average person.

This article is better than most I have seen on the subject.  I recommend it to those who are interested in preparing themselves more adequately for emergencies and disruptions of all kinds.
