Renowned LDS artist Arnold Friberg has died. He was 96.

Friberg’s most famous painting was produced in 1975, depicting George Washington praying at Valley Forge.  A copy of the painting was presented by Friberg to President George W. Bush during a visit to Utah in 2002.

Friberg was also commissioned to paint portraits of the British royal family, including Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth II.

Friberg is best known to Latter-day Saints around the world for his paintings of scenes from the Book of Mormon.  Depicting scriptural characters in a distinctive heroic style, these pictures have illustrated missionary editions of the Book of Mormon in nearly 100 languages.
