It’s not true that more LDS women are depressed than other women in America, said a speaker at this summer’s BYU Education Week.

Marleen Williams, a BYU professor with a PhD in clinical psychology, said the folklore about Mormon women originated with a television documentary that based its claim on faulty statistical analysis.

In a lecture titled "He’s Sad, She’s Sad," Williams also said it may actually be that more Mormon men are depressed than Mormon women.
