Although the purpose of Memorial Day is to remember those who have died in the armed services of the United States, and the focus of the following short video is mainly on our nation’s living warriors, I felt that message of the film – and the song that accompanies it – are so overwhelmingly hopeful and positive, that it would nonetheless be an appropriate offering on this day of sober reflection and remembrance.

O! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war’s desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav’n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust.”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Francis Scott Key, The Star Spangled Banner, verse 4

The tribute “Until Then” was originally produced in 2004 by Todd Clegg on behalf of himself and his colleagues at GCS Distributing.  They have produced other patriotic tributes, which can be viewed on their website.

You can read more about Memorial Day in Wikipedia.  You can also find out about a fifth verse of The Star Spangled Banner – almost unknown today – at Wikipedia’s article about our national song.
